As the new director of sales for New York Wire Company, Jeff Roscoe says one of his most important duties is to convince a new generation of designers and engineers to consider the possibility of wire screen.

“Because of our focus on customization and adaptation, there is no realistic limit to the markets we can serve or the applications we can satisfy,” he says. “There are people out there with problems who don’t realize that wire mesh offers the best solution. Our challenge is finding those people. Or helping them find us.”

Time after time, Jeff says, that initial meeting leads to client delight. “We offer a problem-solving, solutions-oriented atmosphere. And we’ve always been that way. If there’s something that needs to be done and a screen can do it, our engineers will figure out a way to make it work effectively and cost-efficiently.”

Sometimes the solution requires a custom design that meets precise specs. Other times, we adapt concepts we have engineered in the past. Either way, New York Wire Company’s process and results remain consistent with those Jeff observed in his early years with the company.

“We still have the same attention to quality, delivery and customer service. There are times where we’ll turn this plant upside down to get something done for a customer. And that’s not the unusual circumstance – that’s standard operating procedure. People talk about working weekends to get something done for a customer, like that’s special? We do it all the time and don’t even think of that as going ‘over and above.’ That’s getting the job done.”

Now, though, New York Wire applies that energy to a much narrower focus on applications in non-traditional, non-door-and-window retail markets. While the focus may be narrower, the range of possibilities is broad.

“The future is very bright,” Jeff says. “We see all kinds of opportunities.”

According to company President Guy E. Fritz, Jr., “The new site does a much better job of presenting our capab

ilities and our expertise. It is conceived and designed in an attractive, logical way that will inform and appeal to technically minded people everywhere, and it clearly establishes our brand as the go-to source for custom engineered solutions in wire mesh and drawn wire.

“At the same time, the new site’s construction will optimize its appeal for search engines. That is especially important to us as we look to extend our global reach.”

In addition to outlining the company’s capabilities and product specifications, the website has been constructed to grow and evolve along with the company’s capabilities.

Christmas is coming…and you know what that means! No, it doesn’t mean you better be good. It means it’s soon time for the New York Wire Company’s annual Christmas morning Factory Whistle Concert.

Each year, shortly after midnight on Christmas morn, the night is filled with the eerie wail of the company’s factory whistle. It has become a treasured tradition among area residents, including the hundreds who brave the chill each year and gather outside our Market Street, York, PA, facility.

The concert, typically 15 to 20 minutes long, comes courtesy of Don Ryan, the Whistlemaster, who creates the sounds by sliding an adjustable valve, similar to a penny whistle.

Support for the concert is provided by our company and a team of community partners who have raised money and assisted with logistics to help keep the concert a treasured part of the York Christmas tradition.

This year, for the first time, the concert will be powered by air rather than steam. The switch was made to reduce costs and ensure that the concert continues for years to come. But the quality and loudness of the concert promise to match that of years past.

Historians say the first New York Wire Christmas concert took place in the 1920s, with an area music teacher standing at the helm. The tradition found renewed life in the mid-1950s, thanks to the first of three generations of Whistlemasters: Marlin, Don and Scott Ryan.

There is even a CD of one year’s concert, titled “Factory Steam Whistle, New York Wire Co.” and, on the package, the New York Wire Company whistle is referred to as “the world’s loudest music without amplification from a non-musical instrument.”

Depending on the weather, the music can be heard at least five miles away, and sometimes up to 10 or 12, depending on the wind. But one day, it was heard all over America, thanks to a segment on the CBS TV morning show.
